March 10th Thursday
Hey class! I am sad I am not in class with you all. I am at UNCW presenting and learning how to be a better teacher! YAY for me! And remember...just because I am not there doesn't give you the right to act like a middle school student. How you act when I am absent reflects upon me.
Here is your agenda:
1st half of class- Tutorials (this is your time to get help from and with your peers...use it!)
2nd half- You are going to create a cartoon about the first chapter of Nickel and Dimed.

- go to http://www.toondoo.com
- Set up an account. Click the RED button in the top right corner that says "SIGN UP FOR TOONDOO"
- Make your username easy to remember, like firstinitial and last name (rsmith)
- Make your password easy to remember (duh)
- Use your gmail as your email-- you can access it here at school!
- Then play with the site, get familiar with it, watch the tutorials!
Now, create your own cartoon! Directions:
- You are going to create a cartoon based on the first chapter of our text
- In the cartoon must be at least one person, a background and of course, words!
- In the cartoon you must incorporate 3 of the vocab words!
- The words must be used CORRECTLY for fill credit.
- Have fun with this!
- Make it silly but accurate! :)
- Save your cartoon as N and D Chp1

This a great site for SAT help. It is up to you how you want to navigate the site. There is a blue and red drop down menu with different topics you can choose from. This is a good starting place!

It will give you hints on how to Beat the essay portion , beat the identifying sentences section, beat numbers and operations AND MORE! So check this site often!

You going to read an article of your choice.
Print out the worksheet below and start it! You will find words that you don't know, write what you think they mean and then look up the actual definition.

SAT Practice

1. Click on the link below and choose from the reading, math or writing sections. Click the blue tab that says "Practice Now".
Take notes throughout on questions/topics you are confused about (you are turning in).
When you get here, click the "Add to favorites" tab up above. It is the gold star with a green plus sign on the menu bar above. Add it to your favorites tab so you can access it easily.
Print results or the page you are on upon my direction. (Proof of your work)
2. SAT Question of the Day:
You are required to complete 3 "SAT Question of the Day" problems per week. You must write/print out the question of the day in addition to answering the question online.
You will keep a record of these questions in your binder. The first set of questions will be due Friday, Feb. 18th. (turned in to me, turned in to my mail box in the office, or submitted online via email ) I will collect other weeks at random. Rhetorical Comparisons Project
You will be analyzing all of the songs that you have heard the past 3 days and completing a 2-part project.
1. You are looking for similarities in subject, tone and rhetoric. You are to create a chart, bubble map, double bubble map, circle map, etc., illustrating their similar themes. And noting their themes clearly.
2. You will then choose a lyric (phrase or line) from each song and create your own piece of literature. One line must be taken from each song to create an original piece of literature. Your new piece must have an original message with rhetorical strategies built in. This part must be typed.
Due: Tuesday February, 8th. (rain or shine)

Are you OVER this weather yet?
I can not wait for some warm days! I hope you have enjoyed your snow days so far! I bet you are wondering what is up with exams and your presentation for me...
Here is what I have so far:
Jan 18- 1st block exam and EOC's in the AM
Jan 19- 2nd block exam and EOCs in the AM
Jan 20-3rd block exam and EOC's in the AM
Jan 21- half day for you!
Jan 27- First day of NEW SEMESTER!
Presenation dates for your Rhetorical Analysis:
Jan 20**maybe, Jan 21(4th block will be from: 830-1030), and the 25th if we need it!
