Article response 9/13

After reading the article titled: On College Forms.... answer the following questions on the blog and comment on at least one of your peer's answers. Responses due by Thursday @ 10pm.

1. Define: racial heritage, dilemma, anonymous, identity, affirmative action, imperative, diverse, onus, corroboration
2. Is it right for the Department of Education to require colleges to collect racial information?
3. Why do some students refuse to list their race out of protest?
4. According to the article, the intent of affirmative action is to help disadvantaged minorities, not those who are well off. Why don’t they want to help minorities who are not poor? Why don’t they want to help poor non-minorities?
5. How could colleges target help at minorities who are poor? How could they target help at poor people, generally?
6. The article also states that affirmative action is intended to “redress the nation’s long history of discrimination [against minorities] in higher education, but also to provide students rich opportunities to learn from peers who bring various backgrounds to campus.” Would offering advantages to someone who is half-white and half black help achieve this goal? Would offering advantages to white Jewish students? Asian students?
7.
a) Why was a woman’s French great-grandfather born in Algeria? Why was the consensus that she couldn’t qualify as African-American – was Algeria not really part of Africa when the French ruled it?
b) Why did College Confidential posters respond differently to her than to the other woman who was part African-American, part Asian-American?
8. “I’d be giving them information, not saying, ‘Do this,’ wink, wink.” Is there really a difference?
9. What does Rice really mean when it asks about “the unique life experiences and cultural traditions"? How could you write an effective essay about this?
10. “Rice knows that however much it emphasizes that students should be guided by the honor principle…some will seek to stretch the new definitions to their own gain.” If the rules allow a mixed-race person discretion, how will people make their decisions? Is it wrong of them to give answers that benefit themselves?
11. Are people who “stretch definitions” violating the intention of the programs? If so, what is that intention?
12. Should there be affirmative action? Explain your answer.

  1. 1.) Racial Heritage: quailities of a certain race
    Dilemma:difficult situation or problem
Anonymous: not giving away information about yourself or others
Identity: the fact of being who aor what a person is
Affirmative Action:action or policy favoring those who suffer from discrimination
    Imperative:essential or urgent thing
    Diverse: Showing variety
Onus:something that is someone's responsibility or duty
    Corroborations: documentation

2.)I do not think it is a wrong thing but students should have the option to put their race, some want to and some do not.

3.)Some students are mixed with many things and they might not know which one one to put down and if they are trying to apply for a minority scholarship it might be difficult for them to receive.

4.)Because that is more money the colleges can use to put towards minorities who actually need financial help. Minorities sort of have a special benefit because colleges want to be able to help them as much as possible.

5.)They can offer them as many scholarships as possible to help them pay for school and provide them with whatever help they may need. They can help them as often as they can and show them scholarships as well to help them pay for their education.

6.)Yes I think it would because the students will get to meet so many different other races, and the colleges should not just help one race without helping another.

7.) a.Some people speak French in Algeria, maybe it was denied because there might not have been any proof to show that the great grandfather was a minority.
b.Because it is more common to see a person who is mixed with Black and Asian then someone who is French and Algerian.

8.)I do not think there is because either way you are telling them to check the multiple boxes or at least persuading them to do so.

9.)He wants to know about the students life and how their culture is different then others which I think is great because it shows that he wants to be interested in the student. A student could give an interesting experience and try to compare it to their culture. I kind of like that essay topic in a way!

10.)They can decide if they really want to show if they are mixed or not, but they will have the option to do so, so their decision is up to them. When it comes to college I do not think it is wrong to give answers that will benefit you because its hard to get in and pay for college so you have to do everything you can for yourself.

11.)I think it is kind of violating the program because you should be straight up and honest when filling out anything. I think maybe their intention is to make themselves stand out more but the program wants to know the REAL you not the fake version.

12.) I think there should because minorities sometimes need more help with college then non-minorities. They might need more attention when it comes to college then others.

  2. 1.racial heritage: the background(s) of a race
dilemma: any difficult or perplexing situation or problem
anonymous:of unknown name; whose name is withheld
identity: the state or fact of remaining the same one or ones
affirmative action: the encouragement of increased representation of women
and minority-group members, especially in employment.
imperative:something that demands attention or action; an unavoidable
    obligation or requirement; necessity
diverse:of a different kind, form, character, etc.; unlike
onus:a difficult or disagreeable obligation, task, burden
corroboration:To strengthen or support with other evidence; make more certain

    2. In my opinion it is not right for them to collect racial information. But I do believe that it helps them come to their decisions. After all we have gone on this long with the same routine applications.

    3. Some students may not see what their race has to do with their education.

4.They may feel that the less poor minorities can support themselves. But the poor minorities may need that extra help to guide them through.

    5. On the applications along with the race questions, household income could be one additional required field.

6.I think that by accepting various ethnicities and cultural backgrounds more opportunities to learn from peers will appear. It would also offer more chances to introduce humanism in the next generations. Thus, reducing discrimination and prejudice in the future.

7.I feel like the fact that her distant relative was not the factor in her race. Yet if the father had also been in the same predicament the story would be different.

    8. It is not the same thing. Since he is just saying that it would be beneficial, the student still has their own beliefs and will not feel pushed to decide on what race to apply under.

9.An essay could be written about the cultural traditions celebrated in their homes. Such as birthdays, holidays and Sundays.

10.It is not wrong of them to do things to benefit themselves, that is a way to be successful in life. But it is when they begin to lie. That is crossing the line.

11.If they are stretching the “definitions” I see no problem. But when they stretch the “truth” that is a problem. The intention of the programs are to give minorities a helping hand. Once the violation of the definitions is broken, so are the intentions of the programs. Making them useless.

    12. I believe that affirmative action should always be present. because there are people out there who are not stretching the definitions. But instead stretching out their hands for help to pursue a higher education and successful life.

  3. 1.) Racial Heritage- being a member of a particular ethnic group
Dilemma- a situation in which a different choice has to be made between two or more alternatives.
    Anonymous- having no identification
Identity- the fact of being who or what a person or thing is.
affirmative- an action or policy in those who tend to suffer from discrimination.
Diverse- showing a great deal of variety " culturally diverse population.
Onus- used to refer to something that is ones duty or responsibility.
    Corroboration- documentation

2.) no it is not, the student that is applying should feel comfortable and should put what every race they think that they are apart of.

3.) some student might be mixed with race and might be confused about which race to pick when filling out application which in some situation it will make it harder.

4.) minorities has abilities from colleges cause they want to help them in every way they can an help grow there university by becoming a more diverse school, and money that can help support them as well.

5.) they can help them by giving them scholarships that would help them pay for their education, and different programs that give money away as they wont have to pay for college or give back money that they don't have.

6.) yes , cause colleges should not put their focus on one race they should explore their possibilities of growing the university and becoming more diverse and cultural and so every one can learn about more than one race or gender.

7.) French is spoken in Algeria. and perhaps that she didn't qualify or no records show that her grandfather is a minority.
    b. cause its seen more for a person to be African American an Asian

8.) no there is no difference cause your telling them to mark all that apply to them and what they know what different races that they have in them.

9.) he wants to know what about the different cultures of student life. and different experiences each student goes through.

10.) they can pick weather or not if they want colleges to know what race they are and should be given the choice weather to do so for college application.

11.) yes but in the end it will pay off it will help colleges spot them out of a crowd of people it makes them different from every one else.

12.) i think so cause some time it makes it harder for minorities and they should be given assistance to help them with college.

  4. 1.-Racial Heritage: the background or history of a race
-Dilemma: A problem involving a difficult choice
-Anonymous: Having an unknown or unacknowledged name
-Identity: The set of behavioral or personal characteristics by which an individual is recognizable as a member of a group.
-Affirmative Action: A policy or a program that seeks to redress past discrimination through active measures to ensure equal opportunity, as in education and employment.
-Imperative: Expressing a command or plea
    -Diverse: different; of various kinds.
-Onus: A difficult or disagreeable responsibility or necessity; a burden or obligation.
-Corroboration: To strengthen or support with other evidence; make more certain

    2. I agree with what Brittany said; that it should be an option to put your race, not required of you. But I do think it is right of them to ask so they'll know how diverse their school is going to be.

    3. Because they might think that the school won't accept them based on what race they are. And they might think that race isn't an important factor when the school is going through their application.

    4. -I guess because they think that the non-poor minorities have a better chance at paying and getting into the college and they want to help out the ones that don't have as much of a chance at getting in.
-Maybe because there's not as many programs to help the poor minorities as there are for the poor non-minorites?

    5. Make as many scholarships available for these minorities and for people that aren't as well off as others.

    6. Yes because it'll let students see how other people live, how their cultures are and it'll open their eyes to the reality that there are other people who live totally different. It'll help with learning and accepting people that might be 'different' than you.

    7. A.I think some of the people that live in Algeria actually speak French. Maybe she didn't qualify because a great-grandfather is too far of a stretch back in the family tree to accept.

    B. Maybe because her mother and father were asian and black which is closer in a family tree than a great grandfather. And you don't hear of French and Algerian as much as asian and black.

    8. I don't think so because you can say that you're just "giving them information" but people can see by the way you deliver the information that you're clearly persuading them to do something. Actions speak louder than words.

    9. I think he means just some information about your culture and how it might stand out from others and what kind of life experiences you've had that might relate to your culture. You could write about your experience and how it affected you. Or you could take another person's experience related to your culture and write about that.

    10. They can make their own decisions and have control over what information they want to share with the college. And I don't think so; it's already way hard to get into college so if there's something about you that makes you unique or if you qualify for a certain scholarship, then why wouldn't you go for it and try to help yourself out? As long as you be truthful about it, I see no problem with giving answers that will benefit you in the end.

    11. I think so because if you're "stretching the definition", you're stretching it so the conditions will apply to you. You have to be truthful with the college and yourself because they don't want you to tell them what they want to hear, they want to know the person that'll be coming to their college.

    12. I think so because, like Mesha said, there are true people out there that really need the extra help to achieve their dreams and there should be programs in place to help those people.

  5. 1: Racial Heritage- The different races that make up someone.
    Dilemma- a choice
Anonymous- an unknown person who wishes to keep their identity a secret
Affirmative Action- a concept that seeks to look past discrimination based on race
    Imperative- a command
    Diverse- Heterogeneous
    Onus- a burden or task
    Corroboration- to confirm
    2. I don't believe it is right, race really shouldn't factor in to the selection process. People should be accepted into colleges based on their academic qualifications, not because of their diversity qualifications.
    3. They believe as people of less diverse racial heritage, putting down their race will lessen their chances of acceptance.
    4. Because the issue isn't totally about race. Statistically, many minorities are less well-off and can't quite afford the education they deserve.
    5. They could offer more financial aid-based scholarships.
    6. Unfortunately, probably not in the way the goal is phrased. They seem to be aiming for more historically oppressed races (African-Americans or Latino-Americans).
    7. A) the woman's great-grandfather, being French, was probably not a native African or born to a native family. Ergo, she does not qualify.
    B) Because the Asian-African-American was having an honest dilemma, while the woman seemed to be trying to play the system.
    8. Not really. The only difference is the tone of voice when conveying the information.
    9. It seems to be asking to play up one's race. To write it effectively would seem to mean playing willingly into racial stereotypes.
    10. People will have to make their decisions on an individual basis. However, there is a difference between a racially diverse person and a person bringing up a distant relative to seem to be a better candidate.
    11. Yes. The intention is to try and help those who are racially diverse, not help those who stretch the truth.
    12. This is difficult to answer. As affirmative action, being something that helps out minorities is a good thing and a step towards tolerance. However, it also encourages reverse racism, and will harm some who are more qualified but less racially diverse. I haven't had enough experience with the topic to make a decision.

Also, I agree with Brittany's view on those who "stretch definitions". They simply gum up the system and its good intentions.

  6. 1. Racial heritage: Having a background of a diffrent race then the ones around you.
    Dilema: A problem
Anonymous: Without being able to idetify who or what said something.
Identity: What makes something/a person up
Affirmative Action: A law thats sets a quota for certain members of a certain group or race.
    Imperative: Nessacery or required
    Diverse: Various kinds or forms
    Onus: What characterizes a person
    Corroboration: To make more certain

    2. I am not sure it it's a right for the Department of education but it should not be allowed.

    3. Because, they feel it unessacery to have to be admitted or not because of their racial background.

    4. What they should do is look at individuals finacial background and not worry at all about race.

    5. They would do this by looking into finacial background information instead of race.

    6. No, all it's doing is reverse racism, race should not matter for getting into school.

    7. A.)Yes, however she was raised in the U.S.A and born, her parents problably do not even speak french, there should by a direct connection from parent to child to be able to really claim a race.
B.) problably because that gerneration gap was closer together.

8.yes, advice is always with a person consent of choosing wether they will fallow it or not. however winking implies that if they dont they will problably not be accepted into the facility.

    9. Writing how it trully effects your way of being and individuality in an organized society.

    10. It's not wrong to do what is beneficial, thats is just human nature;however, it's school faults for giving opportunty to cheat their way into school.

    11. They do take advantage but again not their fault but the schools.

    12. No, students should be looked at academiclly and personalty wise with extracuricular and such but not race !

  7. 1. racial heritage: racial means of or relating to a race, heritage means things you value in your culture. So racial heritage means that the things you value in your culture are often by often defined by your race
dilemma: a problem with a difficult choice
    anonymous: name unidentified
    identity: personality of a individual
affirmative action: the effort to promote the rights of disadvantaged people
imperative: having the power to control and direct
    diverse: different from one another
    onus: your responsibility
corroboration: so support with more authority
    2. I say yes because for a good college they want a little bit of reach race. They want to see diversity in their campus.
    3. Some people choose not to include their race because they do not want to be discriminated based on their background culture
    4. They choose not to help the minority because they know that if they help one group another group will ask for help and if the first group doesn’t help that group they will feel as if they betrayed that group.
    5. To find out whose poor you must give the students surveys on their daily life. Some questions that may include is: (how many members in your family, how many people work in your family, what kind of home do you live in, and/or how much money do you spend in groceries)
    6. Yes, diversity is all the United States. People from all over the world come to the US for this particular reason. We may have noticed but this country history is all about immigrants.
    7. Even though in Algeria you can speak French there is difference because the there was a cultural change between her and her grandmother .
There are two different cultures. There is more likely to be a mixed African American with asian than there is to see a French Algerian.
    8. There is a difference because as we all know nhhs is located in downtown Wilmington this school is a diverse school, we have so many races that come to this school.
    9. You could make a essay on this by understanding the different cultures you are made up of and how it affects you. This will make you research on your customs and culture change.
    10. To make their own decisions people will decide when it comes useful. For example they will chose to a minority when they will try to get a scholarship from a certain college. No, making them only want to feel the minority on certain choices will make them feel as a traitor. They will always betray one of the two cultures.
    11. Some programs accept these certain group of people.
    12. Yes, there needs to be a way of solving on how we classify mixed people and the advantages they can use.

  8. 1. Racial heritage: the background of a race.
    Dilemma: a problem or complication.
    Anonymous: being unidentified.
    Identity: the personality of someone.
Affirmative Action: program to help support minorities.
Imperative: something demanding attention or action.
Diverse: made up of people from many backgrounds.
    Onus: blame or responsibility
Corroboration: to confirm or make certain.
    2. Yes. The government knowing the diversity of colleges will provide insight into changes that need to be made to better then next generation.
    3. They do not want to be labeled as a certain race and possibly be discriminated against.
    4. Because based on historical evidence, usually those who are not of a minority have an easier time getting into higher education than those of a minority. Also they think that those who have less should be the first concern, not just minorities as a whole but poorer minorities.
    5. They look at financial records and associate them with race. They choose the ones that are in need of more help than others. They also help those who are generally poor with financial aid.
    6. I think it would. Even though minorities are a prime focus, any non majority race is valuable in presenting a different background. This goes the same for white Jewish students or Asian students. Even if their race is of a majority, their religion and beliefs changes their background from the conventional majority.
    7. A) France created many proprietary colonies in much of Africa, this is evident by remaining French-speaking countries in Africa. The consensus said she did not qualify because the background of a French-speaking country is different than that of Africa as a whole. In addition, the lines that separate Africa from Asia were not developed and Algerians are considered African-Asians.
    B) Unlike the other woman, Ms Scott did not state exactly where her family came from. By leaving it up to interpretation no one could classify her as one or the other.
    8. Yes. Guidance is available to everyone. Anyone can ask for guidance on what they should do on a college application. But telling them that they should do "this or that" without mentioning that it is the students decision is imposing the counselors suggestion into a command. Also students are too timid to question the counselor if they say to "do this" or wink at a certain response.
    9. Rice means how the person's life experiences and cultural traditions are being brought by the student. This can be an effective essay because if one "plays" the system with their race, the college can deny their affirmative action policy if the cultural traditions and experiences of the student do not represent any willing connection to the racial heritage that the student defined themselves to be.
    10. People must take it upon themselves to be responsible for their decisions. It is not wrong to give answers that benefit themselves so long as they are true. It is also not wrong if they are not true if the student has the potential and intention to better the community more so than another student that could have been accepted in that applicant position. It's about morals and responsibility.
    11. Yes they are in violation. The intention is to provide minorities who NEED help with affording or getting into higher education rather than those who WANT to make getting into a college easier for themselves.
    12. Yes. Minorities can support themselves, but it will take decades before we're even close to all minorities being able to support themselves. Its a fact that we are not all economically equal, and thats never going to change because not everyone earns the same things. But minorities who cant earn enough to support their higher education shouldn't be turned aside, they should be assisted in attaining a higher education. They can then become a successful person and can then support their minority group as a way to pay it forward

  9. 1. Racial Heritage: racial means of or relating to a race.
Dilemma: A difficult situation or problem
    Anonymous: name unidentified
    Identity: personality of a individual
Affirmative action: An action or policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination Imperative: An essential or urgent thing
    Diverse: different from one another
    Onus: someone’s duty
Corroboration: to support with evidence or authority
    2. They want to see diversity in their campus. But I think is wrong because they might discriminate by doing that.
    3. They feel like they might get discriminated if they put their race.
    4. Because they know that the non-poor can pay for themselves while the others can’t. They might want them because of their knowledge and their abilities.
    5. The colleges can do a background check and the S.S.N. can tell how much money they receive if they are working. Thanks to the IRS.
    6. There is diversity all over the country and it’s good for a college to be diverse. Students can feel comfortable with students of different races.
    7. A. There are people who speak French in Algeria, the great grandfather could have had no prove of what he was.
    B. Its more common to see an African-American than an Asian-American.
    8. I don’t think so since they give you the option to mark as many that apply.
    9. He wants to know how the lives of students are different and their culture. By telling the difference of cultures once you have spent some time with another culture beside your own.
    10. We should be able to choose if we want colleges to know what race we are.
    11. Some people may cheat without knowing but it’s the schools fault if they don’t check a person right.
    12. I think there should be an affirmative action since most applicants get denied because they can’t afford to pay and colleges should make an exception to look closer into a person.

2.I think that they want as much diversity as possible, but that might turn into a problem because it might turn into discrimination.
3.They might think that the schools will discriminate against the students.
    4. They might think that the well off minorities will have more Opportunities. while the poor minorities will not have as many opportunities.
5.They could either ask for income.
6.Yes, because it is good for the students to see and learn from the diversity of the school.
7.I think that if it was her actual father that was from Algeria then it would be a different story.
8.In a way it is the same thing but in a way it is not the same thing. Because he is basically tell them what they should put, but the students
    ultimately make their own decision.
9.He wants to know about the students culture and how it differs from other students. You can write about how our culture is different when we are at home.
10.I think that students should be able to choose weather they want to put their race on the application.
11.Some people might try cheat the system by putting the race that benefits them the most. but it is the schools fault if they do not properly check the student.
12.I think there should be affirmative action because it will help those who has been discriminated against.

I agree with M3$h@ about the affirmative action.

2.) Why it does always got to be about race for!!!!???? Yeah I think it is wrong that u have to put your race down like why does it matter
3.) B/c now days there are so many different races out there that have come together that the child does know which one they put down.
4.) Because if there poor or not they are still the minority.
5.) Come up with more scholarships for people that are poor minorities.
6.) Yes because the college kids will get to meet other people that they go to college with that are a different race then them.
7.) a. in Algeria looks like they speak French there but people may not know that so that is more than likely why it was a no go. b. Because you never really see a person that is mixed with French and Algerian.
8.) No because you’re telling them to check the sheet either way
9.) He wants to know there back grounds where they came from, and what their family traditions are. He could write about what all he learns from the different people.
10.) It can show if they are mixed or what race they are. But they also don’t have to if they don’t want to. But I don’t really think that it should matter what race you are. But if it works for ya then by all means gets you some money for college.
11.) You have to be who you are, and not try to be something you’re not. They want to know who you as a person really are and not who you’re not.

  13. 2.) I don't think its wrong but i do think there's a limit to a certain amount of informaion that people want to give; and i think it should be optional.

3.) in specific situations it could/couldn't be benificial to them

4.) some people can and can't support themselves and its designed to help others in need

5.) By providing more assistance to minorities and offer more aid/scholarships

6.) yes b/c students will actually get to experience that diversity that colleges want.

7a.) Idk she probably wasn't native to the African homeland.
b.) the gap in her family's generation didn't benifit her... maybe if they were closer togethere in the family tree it would have.?

8.) there isn't a difference b/c theres still some level of persuasion

9.) he wants to kno about the different cultures and experiences of the student population.

    2. I think it is right for the department of education to require colleges to collect racial information because I feel that they need to know this about a person they need to know who they are bringing in to their school. I feel they don’t need to know your whole background but at least what race you are.
    3. I think some students that refuse to put their race out of protest are confused they just don’t know exactly what to put if there more than one race.
    4. They may not want to help the minorities that are not poor because they feel that they can get the money their self and for the poor minorities they feel that they just need a little help to get the money.
    5. When the student fills out the application for that school and following that they could send out a letter. They already do that the school has scholarships that students could full out.
    6. Yes offering advantages to them would very much help achieve the goal. Because they are brining that various background to that school.
    7. There are people that speak French in Algeria and other languages and her grandfather may not of been all French. b. you probably wouldn’t see a person that is mixed with French and Algerian
    8. No there isn’t
    9. It means your cultural tradition your background what life experiences have you had. You could write about all the different types of cultural traditions and life experiences all over the world.
    10. It’s their decision if they want to put that their mixed, I mean there’s no wrong answer because either way your right you know what you are.
    11. I think it is violating the intention because everyone should be honest about stuff like that, you could get in trouble.
    12. I think there should be affirmative action because it would help those in need very much. I also agree with what most of my fellow student posted that agreed that affirmative action should be taking a part

    2. No, it should be based on the student not there race
    3. The school might accept or deny student by there race
    4. Because they do not need school help to pay for college or fasfa, its easier for non minorities to get into non minority school
    5. Colleges could look at the background of the student and income. They could help poor people by how much there family income is and offer more aid to them.
    6. I believe that it should be equal opportunity for everyone because not all non minorities have the same background.

  16. I agree with Heidi a.k.a. Big Skittles' response to number eight. Actions do speak louder than words. It would all vary based on how he delivers this "information". Although I do feel that if he helps one person that he should help them all.

  17. These are Lauren's answers
    1. Racial Heritage: Something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth dealing with race.
Dilemma: A situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives.
Anonymous: With out any name acknowledged.
Identity: The state of fact of remaining the same one or ones.
Affirmative Action: The encouragement of increased representation of women and minority
    Imperative: Absolutely necessary or required
Diverse: Of a different kind, form, or character.
Onus: A difficult or disagreeable obligation
Corroboration: To make more certain; confirm.

    2. Yes because it keeps the colleges diverse and keep colleges from becoming one race.

    3. They are afraid that being white will hurt their chances of getting in.

    4. They don’t want to help the minorities who aren’t poor because those minorities have a better chance of getting in and paying for college. They don’t want to help poor non-minorities because they don’t fit with the Affirmative Action plan.

    5. They can target poor minorities by having more screening to get the help to the ones who really need it. College can use the same screening process to find the poor people who need the help.

    6. I think that giving the same opportunities to all of the applying students would give the best of the “Rich opportunities” that affirmative action is trying to achieve.

    7. A. I think that in Algeria they speak French. The great grandpa might not have proof of living there.

    B. They responded differently because the woman who was asking about the great grandmother was reaching back far into the family tree. The woman who was torn between putting Asian or African American on her application was physically Asian and African American, she wasn’t reaching for a minority in her family.
    8. I don’t think there is a difference in giving the information and saying “do this wink wink” because the idea is still being implied that they she lie a little on their application.

    9. I think that rice is trying to ask how are you different for the other students who are claiming to be a minority. You could put this in to an essay be explain one thing that you enjoy doing that is common in you cultural which matches the minority you claim to be.

    10. I think that the person filling out the application will chose the race that best fits them. I don’t think it is wrong for someone of mixed races to claim one over the other to get in to college, I believe they should put what best fits them as long as they are telling the truth while filling it out.

    11. I think that people who stretch the intention by reaching back in there family history to find a way to be a minority are violating the intention of the program. The intention of the program is to help the minorities be present in colleges.

    12. I think there should be affirmative action because if there wasn’t colleges would be full of one race which isn’t fair to everyone who applies.

I agree with cece that people will use the system to benifit themselves but schools should have a better way to fact check.
