  1. I think this article opened my eyes to the things that i didn't notice was a problem in our society and government dealing with our education and financial declines. I think that it is an good idea to give out a big round of aid to state the goverment to help our students with financial problems to stay in college.

  4. Its bad when America is having a relative decline in educating children. In the atricle it said that America is behind other advance country's and I think that's something we as a whole need to work on.

  5. I think that this article will make people see how important staying in school, and getting a good education is. If more people stay in school and finish getting their education it will help the U.S. by making the economy better. America is falling behind on education and need to catch up with the rest of the world.

  6. In this article i realized that more kids drop out of school and go into a full time job.And i learned that during world war 2 education was overwhelming due to the rise of education. but the most suprizing thing is how we went from a very educated country to not very educated because people dont care about school anymore.

  7. Its stupid that our gov't isnt spending taxpayer dollars as they should be. they should be spending them on education so that more people can get the higher education they need to acchieve in this world. Alot of kids end up dropping out of schools so we need programs to help prevent that. if we dont educate our generation better then our generation will be looked down upon by other nations.

  8. In this article I read that without the education that we need to succeed in life we won't we have as a bright future as we wish to have. It is talking about how dumber the american country is getting as we go on through out the years. I fell as if instead we growing in a stronger nation we are slowing losing our power of having one of the smartest and strongest nation in the world.

  9. This article is summed up to be about why school is so important in this day and age. Paul Krugman's opinion on the subject is that we are wasting taxpayers dollars for people who dont want to take part or embrace the value of ah real education. Without this type of education;its said to say but our futures might not be as bright as we'd like to think or hope they'd be.

  10. The article is explaining to us that school is something we have to keep doing and keep people in. It is expensive to do but it is still something that people will not let stop, do not give up on school fight until you are done with it. The tax payers think money is going to waste for all people who do not want to be here. jobs are being lst but if you have the higher education will keep their job so stay in school do not waste tax payers money and just do yur work.

  11. this article is trying to explain about how years ago it was a great thing to spend taxpayer dollars on school and a higher education. today it still is but not as great as it was 30 years ago. the drop out rate has increased highly so now they feel it's wasted on people who could care less about their education. i get where they are coming from but i think they should seek out those who don't care. we are the most powerful country but yet we are falling behind in education which is what we needforour jobs.

  13. Wow. That's sad. I can't believe that our education system is declining. Why when we are supposed to be a nation of great opportunities are we the nation with less?

Education is the base of all things.....

  14. After reading this article I realize how much competition myself and my peers are to when it comes to getting an education. Our education is declining and it is getting much harder to get a job now and it will worsen when we graduate from college.

  15. With education slowly declining and being negleted, getting jobs and being successful in this world just gets harder. Without education, it is almost impossible to have anything. Education is the base of everything.

  16. Before reading the article I was an uneducated American.Paul Krugman made me to realize that the reason for our decline in education points to our economy. After thinking to myself after reading the article I was educated as well as questioning myself.I began to ask;"Well how is economy effecting our education?".After a while it all began to add up.If the government manages the money we have less money for books. If the government manages our money we have less teachers.Less teachers equals more student to teacher ratio. And a lot of students in one class room can get ugly.Plus with students knowing there are less jobs they may figure there is no reason to go to school.Because when they graduate there will be no jobs left. Now I feel like and educated American.

  17. Reading this article has made me even more aware of the importance of our generation staying and continuing school. We have the future of our country in our hands, we need to make a change today. This change is staying in school doing what you are here to do,learn, and help other learn too. As of today we see how little by little our nation is going down hill and it doesn't seem like it will be meting better for a while if we continue to do what we are doing today, which is not giving the proper importance to education. We need to focus more on doing good in school today that way to be able to go to college and stay in college. If each and everyone of us did that we will see a better future for us and for the others that con after us.

  19. America is being turned into an uneducated place and we are falling behide in the areas we need to be succesful in. Teacher cuts should be the last place to cut pay ,or loss there jobs. If we were the number one country for education then we can always get back on top. The goverment just needs to try harded ,and focus on education.

  20. I think that this article stresses the importance of education in America. After reading this article I understand that in order to stay on top and be able to compete with other countries we must be educated. America once led in educating its youth but has gradually fallen behind other advancing countries. This article makes me wonder what is in store for the future generation if we continue on the path that we are on.
