  2. 1. The US didnt believe anything was actually going on. They said there was no official evidence.
    2. The US didnt know about how badly and how serious everything that was going on. Again, they didnt want to believe something this big was actually going on.
    3. The real reason for the US infaction is that they were in disbelief.
    4. I agree and disagree becuase the US was not there when everything was going on. Then again, the media didnt show and get the problem across very well.

  3. 1.they didnt have a good view of wat was happening on the situation and wat was going on.
2.they knew what was going on but didnt do any thing about the situation.
3.the reason was that they didnt believe it.
4.yea. i agree because the us wasnt there. and the should of gotin the situtation across better on in a different way..

  4. 1.The US had no recognition of the events that were occuring with the genocide
2.they didnt kknow how to take care of the situation but they knew what was going on, and didnt take it seriously
3.they did not have the will power to do it
4.i do not agree bc why is it that the us always have to help every one bc does every one else help us when stuff like that goes down i dont think so. but yea it would have been nice if we did help but why does every one depend on the us to do everything....

  5. 1.) The U.S was not aware of what was going on, maybe if they knew they would have tried to help with the problems.
2.)That the fact that we didn't know what was going on was not true and that US officials knew a great deal of the events that were happening.
3.)It wasn't a lack of knowledge it was a lack of will.
4.)I agree with her because I am pretty sure that the U.S. knew what was going on at the time. We may not have know how much was happening but we still knew some of what was going on.

  6. 1. One of the most commn reasons for inaction is "we did not know." Another reason is that "we could not have done much to stop the horrors." 2. She Charges a series of American presidents with failing to respond correctly to genocide. she also says that the presidents arent solely to blame she questions where the American people are?
    3. Power includes that the real reason is that we had lack of kowledge or influence, adn lack of will.
    4. I think that she makes good points but I feel that if the American people had been more informed they would have been more willing and motivated to help.

  7. 1.They say that the US had not enough of a good idea of what was going on to interfere
2.The US still didnt have enough of a good idea to interfere its not that we didnt have the power to we just cant interfere and mess up
3." The real reasons the US did not do what it could and should have done was because not the lack of knowledge or lack of influence but a lack of will.Ameican leaders did not act because they didnt want to.
    4. I agree but do not agree because I dont think that its the US's problem to keep the other countries in line and to interfere they need it because i dont see other countries running over here when we need help. But i also do agree because it looks good on the US

  8. 1. The USA said it had little or no knowledge of the genocide or claiming to have little influence in the situation.
    2. The USA had more knowledge than it claimed, and when it did intervene in genocides, it had made a difference.
class is about over...i'll finish later...

  10. 1. nobody in the us new/claimed about the genocide and the other things that were occuring.
2.they new about it/found out about it, but did absolutly nothing about it.
    3. they just didnt do it because they didnt have the guts to do it
    4. i dont agree because the us is basically always helping when, really, we need to help ourselves and the govt is spending so much money on other countries and yet we have people here living from food stamps.

  11. 1 Some say "they didn't know" but others argue that they weren't prepared to invest the military, financial,or domestic political capital needed to stop it.
2)some say that they didn't know the magnitude of the violence occurring, others say that they have helped like in the case of Rwandan.
    3) the real reason that the US didn't stop the genocides in the past was simply because of the lack of will.
4)I personally do agree with the author of this article. We have been well aware of was happening around the world of all the violence but still we decided to not stop it in time.we do interfere with other countries that have something to offer us but since theses countries didn't have anything for us they why should we worry about them........

  12. 1. The U.S really didn't know what was going on and all the details.
    2. In the article she said that they did know but didn't know how serious it had become or wether it was serious at all

    3. they ddn't do anything about because they were shocked about the whole situation

    4. i dont agree because we are always helping other countries when in reality we need to help our own country so we can get out of this depression

  14. 1: The U.S. says they did not know of the genocide and wouldn't have been able to do much to stop it.
2: Power responds to theese claims saying that the U.S. did indeed know of the genocide and could have prevented it. The U.S. didn't want to beleive what was happening.
3: Power includes the real rasons for the U.S. inactivity was that they care enough to do anything.
4: I agree with Power because our country didn't attempt to stop this when we are part of the genocide convention and it is our duty to prevent theese crimes from happening.

  15. 1.Then US wasnt prepared toinvest the military, finanicial, diplomatic or domestic political capital needed to stop it even though they knew it was wrong.
2.she said it wasnt like they didnt know it was just that didnt want to help.
3.they didnt really have the power to do anything and even if they did i dont think they would have known what to do
4.i feel like the US could have done something to help but then again i dont think it would have made a big difference.

  17. 1. The U.S. states that they didn't know what was happening at the time and when they found out it was too late.
    2. That they knew what was going on, they just didn't do anything about it.
    3. They were in disbelief and didn't have the will power to do anything.
    4. I agree with her because the US knew what was going on. They may not have known how serious it was, but they knew something was happening, and they did nothing to help.

  18. 1.For the reasons that the US did not help was just the plain reason of not knowing what was happening to the other countries. Other reason was that the US did not want to join was because it was not prepared to invest the military, financial, diplomatic, or domestic political capital needs to try to stop it.

2.Power comes into this because it shows that with the power we can either help the countries that have the genocide or we have the power but we are not doing anything to try to stop it. "With great power comes great responsibility" Stan Lee Creator of Spiderman

3.The power they had was that they didn't believe the horror the countries are living.

4.She is saying what is the point of being one of the strongest nations in the world and all we do is sit back and just see innocent people dead.
I feel as if the US should do something to try in stop this. Everyone hates to see a sad face but look how many sad faces are being killed for no reason in these genocide.

  19. 1. Their official explinations were that they either did not know about the situation, or that if they did know, they could do too much to help out

2.She responds by saying that by being a major power of the world, we would at least know a little something or just enough information just to take action. And the response that they couldn't do anything is false because having lots of wealth and military power can actually help peopole. She also recounts incidences that when the US helped, it really DID make a difference.

    3. She states that the real reason for not helping is not by lack of knowledge nor teh lack of power to make a difference, but rather, it is the lack of WILL to take action and put an end to a genocide or major conflict.

    4. I agree and disagree with her opinion. I agree becuase yes, the US has enough power to end many International conflicts and make a difference. But I disagree because "With great power comes great responsibility". Meaning, that with that powerr we could both help or even make things a whole lot worse. An example would be when the Europeans came to Africa wanting to educate the African tribes, but in turn they actually made things worse by "edcuating" them and pointing out all of their differences into catagories and bringing out that hatred that they now strongly have for one another.

  20. Response I: In paragraph seven it states that they did not want to act because they were not prepared to invest their military, financial, diplomatic or domestic political capital.
Response II: She charges the American presidents of the past for failing to respond to any of the Genocide's that have occured.
ResponseIII:That the real reason was not lack of knowledge but lack of will. They just didnt want to help.
Response IV:I agree with Power. If we wanted to help we could have. But we chose not to, although we weren't being selfish. We were just thinking about how it would effect our country.

  21. 1. they didnt know that it was going on.they didnt have the the military financial diplomatic or domestic political capital needs to try to stop it.
    2. they have the power to stop it but they chosse not to.
    3. they didnt belivie it was going on so they didnt get invalved with it and if they did they didnt have the power to stop it.
    4. i agree with her becuse she understands that it was the poers that controled stoping them but they didnt want to

  22. 1. The offical US didn't really know what was going on, because thewy had no evidence on the situation.
    2. The US has done so little in the past, but now they are actually starting to see what is going on and yet haven't done anything for the situation.
    3. The real reason the US did not do what it could and should have done to stop genocide was not a lack of knowledge or influence but lack of will.
    4. I agree because the US didn't help ans spread this situation around like they should of. Butthe US can step its game up and try to help NOW.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Response 1: If they don't get involved they think they will cause more problems for the country it self. Tey didn't have the military financial diplomat or domestic political capital needs to stop it.
    2. They have the power to put a stop to it but they didn't.
    3. They didn't beleive it was happening so they didn't do anything about it.
    4. I agree because she knows that the posers had what it took to stop it but they didn't do anything about it.

  24. 1.We as the united states didnt know what was going on.
    2. The United states didn't know that how serious and how worse was everything.
    3. Th U.S. didnt't believe nothing so the U.S. took everything for granted
4.no i dont agree because we shouldnt have to help out every one. This is affectiving or economey

    ReplyDelete
  25. Part II
Also to the above post, it's affecting and economy.
    3. She suggests that the real reason may simply be to avoid conflict and save face.
    4. From a moral standpoint, it is ethically wrong to stand by while knowing the information and do nothing. however from a political perspective, preventing our involvement also prevents further entrenchment in unwanted financial and military turmoil.

  26. 1. we had no idea of wat was going on..

3.they ttok the situation for granted
4.i do agree with her because we might need help in the future and we can call favors in from those we have helped before.
